We wanted to share the great stories that we are hearing about the love and companionship that the AWR adopted kitties are providing.
Enjoy!
We didn’t think anything could heal the heartache when we lost our beloved “Bugger” in July. Leona grieved so, I really thought she might get sick. Then on October 10th, just a day after Leona’s birthday, we met “Jack” at the new shelter in Pueblo West. Jack was only about five months old, but he already knew how to capture one’s heart, and he stole ours on the spot. We adopted each other right away. We took Jack to the Hilltop Vet Clinic on the way home for him to be de-clawed. We picked him up later that afternoon and turned him loose in the house. In spite of the tender front paws, Jack began to explore his new environment and quickly got used to us and to being the only cat in the house. He soon found the litter box and his food and water, and has been no trouble with that. We didn’t think he had a voice, at first – he didn’t make much of a “meow”, and we had to read his facial expressions and body language. But that has changed, and now we understand each other (our English, and his “catspeak”). Jack’s not in the least shy with us or our visitors. He makes friends right away, as he did when we first met him. He still frequently begs to be picked up and held, presenting his tummy for a belly rub, which we love to do for him. He’s our bedfellow every night.
Thanks Shelley for finding cats for my dad. Zipper and Molly Mouse have a great home in the country. They have lots of space to run around in and are catching lots of mice, just what cats should be doing. They also get a can of tuna every once In a while from me. You do a great job helping all of these lost furry souls.

- The calico kitten that I adopted from her had a severe sinus infection. If Shelly had not given her constant does of medicine and monitored her progress, she would definitely have died. She also went through a long regimen of taming this kitten, as she was a member of a feral pack of cats and was very leery of contact with humans, although she liked their food! Shelley provides a clean, loving, and healthy environment for the cats. They are given top quality food, cozy places to sleep, toys to play with, and, most important, lots of attention and affection. I would not hesitate to recommend that anyone desiring to obtain a cat or kitten get one from Shelley McPherson and that any aid of any kind should be provided to Shelley to help her to continue her care and rescue efforts.
